So the first races of the season are now over, with Zettel winning the ladies race and Chemmy Alcott getting a great result of 10th, and Daniel Albrecht winning the guys, GB had no guys competing but hopefully one day, one of the new batch of talented skiers we have will make it on to the circuit to compete, photography wise Soelden is a nice course to shoot, if the gates are set in the right spot...
Ok the season is just about to kick off and I am hopefully going to cover most of the season, some of you may know but my campervan was written off in an accident last week during my drive from London to Austria, so that puts a spanner into my planning for a bit!!!
I will hopefully be able to put some images up on here from this weekends races, as per last year, although I am still in discussio...
This week I am back in my spiritual home of Austria, I love it here and really seriously considering a full time move to Klagenfurt in Carinthia.
I am meant to be shooting golf this week however the weather gods have put a dampner on that, quite literally, its bucketing it down.
The good news is yesterday I got to shoot and meet one of my all time heroes Austrian skier Franz Klammer, it was wat...
I am currently in Berlin to shoot the IAAF Golden League athletics meeting. It’s been a long time since I was last in Berlin, having served here for nearly 3 years during my stint in the British Army. The city itself has changed, and what was once no mans land and killing zone, is now filled with ultra modern buildings. The Olympic Stadium has also under gone a major change, years ago the stadium ...
A lot of you have asked what a Ski Photographer does in the summer! Well the answer is shoot other sports!! So far I have done wakeboarding, Supermoto, and next week I start shooting the ATP tennis tour. But do not despair, for I shall return and shoot next seasons races. I am in discussions with a couple of national teams to act as their official photographer, plus if enough of you guys email ski...
Today we managed to get 2 full races completed, the women's slalom and the men's giant slalom. It was another day of being on the slope at 7am for a 9am start. I had already decided not to ski today, as the white stuff they call snow was more like little polystyrene balls, horrible stuff, the courswas a challenge to shoot also as very limited good places with a clear background and when there was,...
Today we finally got to see a couple of races in Bormio, The Men and women raced the Super G. I had a good position to shoot the big jump for the men's race, and then moved down the course for the women's only to get moved by the FIS race director to a safe but really pants position.
Austria's Hannes Reichelt won the men's event and Switzerlands Fabienne Suter won the women's race. As a result of...
Today they cancelled the womens downhill race, great!!! (English sarcasm ) at this rate we wont have any races as the course will only get worse! I suggested a James Bond race!! all the skiers race down the good piste (there are a few in Bormio) first one over the line is the winner, and like a JB movie kicking punching and pushing over is allowed. For some reason the FIS guys did not agree to it ...
Today the downhill training was cancelled after a few hours of the FIS favourite game of "Wait and see" this means that no Mens downhill race will take place now, thus Didier Cuche gets to win the globe, I dont think any skier wishes to win this way, Bode looked dejected, and Marco Buechel told me he was off to get drunk!!
On my way up to the course this morning before it had been cancelled, I me...
I am in Bormio for the World Cup Finals, and it is looking good for the USA with Lindsey Vonn and Bode Miller both going for the big one!
